About Self-Improvement (Because We Are All a Work in Progress)

Have you ever committed to change certain aspects of your life or yourself, only to find that those changes weren’t permanent?

This can be frustrating, especially when you have put a sizable amount of effort and work into the process. However, there may be an easier way to overcome some of these issues, and it all starts, surprisingly, with changing one's mood.

Mood disorders like bipolar disorder or depressive disorder and difficult life circumstances which affect our moods can all take their toll. However, there are ways to effect change by learning techniques to help improve your mood and the aspects of your life that you would like to work on improving.

Helpful Tips:

· Choose one positive action to build into your life on a daily basis. Rinse, and repeat.  As the actions become habit, you can move on to conquer your next goal.

· Set specific time aside to notice your feelings and understand what they are trying to tell you.  Then, attend to them with positive next steps of self-care, action taking, rest, etc… that you find you need.

· Get in touch with your internal feelings of calmness and peace through things such as prayer, breathing exercises, working out, reading and meditation, and other helpful coping techniques.  These can help you develop a solid and predictable base from which to make positive changes.

· Give yourself the opportunity to write down the qualities already present in yourself which you appreciate, and would like to preserve, then act in ways which are in accordance with these traits.

· Try and make peace with anybody whom, at your discretion, you feel your negative traits have affected.

· Work with an accountability partner who can cheer you on toward your goals.  This person can be a trusted friend, family member, mentor, or therapist. You might even wish to select more than one! With this partnership, you'll be able to keep yourself in balance and in check.

· Allow yourself some grace and patience. Understand that this progression is not always flawless and linear.  You aren’t necessarily going backwards if you falter when you stumble, simply pick back up where you are and take the next step forward.

· If you believe that you are suffering from the effects of manic depression, depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, bipolar depression, or a mood disorder, you may also want to consider working with a licensed psychotherapist. Therapists work hard to provide their clients with specialized and compassionate care.  So, if you are on the fence but feel you need depression help, bipolar treatment, assistance with adjusting your moods, or accountability toward overcoming the obstacles in your life and reaching your goals, you will be in good hands with us.  Let us help you move forward in your life.
